I have a 2008 honda 250 ex and I have been wanting to put some chrome or polished aluminum wheels on it but there's not many wheel styles in the 10" wheels, So I have been thinking about putting some 12" wheels and tires on it, and I wanted to know how much acceleration and torque will I loose if I put the 12" wheels and tires on it? thanks

 

if you keep the stock tire height you wont loose anything, but the reality is you wont be able to find a tire that is aroun 20 inches tall that has a 12 inch rim for it, its really just a guessing game on how much HP you would loose so no one could give you a clear answer

 

so nobody could tell me how much acceleration I would loose by going to the 12" wheels then?

 

12" wheels would require going to atleast 24" or bigger tires. you would lose alot of torque, and with a 250ex there really isnt much to start with.

Maybe nobody can tell you how it will effect it, becasue nobody has been dumb enough to want to kill this little engine with huge utiltiy tires!!! I always ditch the lame 22" stock tires first thing, and put on some 22"F/20"R Holeshots to get some extra bottom end power.

You can't find sport quad rims with enough "bling" for your taste so that means you need a bigger more powerful quad? Big ute rims and wheels will kill any sport quad and make it handle like a turd!

There are a bunch of bling wheels out there that will fit sport quads in 8, 9, or 10" diameters, and they use tires appropriate for a sport quad....just look around.

no that's not why I want a bigger sport quad. the rims that you posted a link to look awesome. And I have been looking at them for months now. but I just want more speed and faster acceleration, and I think that my quad being shaft driven is holding it back. I wish that some company out there made different gears for the 250 ex that you could put in the rear axle so that you could gear it for higher speeds. what should be the top speed of the 250 ex anyway?

 

Being shaft drive, the only way to get a different gearing ratio is to change tire size. Thing is, if you go with taller tires to get more top speed, you will lose low end and be slower off the line and have no guts on the hills. And...this quad doesn't have the suspension to handle high speed anyway.

It's an entry level quad...it is what it is! Go ride the tires off it and get something more sophisticated when you can....

Same goes for regearing pretty much everything I have ever owned when it got newer and bigger tires
