Default 500 scramblers ?

Is there a 'prefered' year model out of the scramblers ? or a 'desired' year model ? Weight reduction's ? engine problems ? clutch issues or 4x4 issues with some years ?

Is the H.O. model really that much better ?

Last question what can the 500 scrambler (power wise) be compared to (example raptor 350.etc...) ?

I am taking a serious look into buying one, this is not my first atv I have previously owned a, DS650, Yamaha Warrior 350, & several dirt & street bikes.

Thanks in advance for all your help

preferred yrs are 2001-2003 not due to issues but for how they were equipped.Such as better rear shock, handle bars, brakelines, etc.
All 500 Scramblers are HO.Power wise is stock form not real impressive but add proper clutching and they can hang with any of the 400 class sport machines.(Polaris clutches stock to keep them safer and unintimidating so your gramma can ride it)

Thanks for all the replys, I dont think the scrambler is for me due to it being down on power.. & the 2-stroke seems like the better choice of the 2 but I dont want to have to open the cases when its time for a rebuild.

I do like polaris I think they have a great lineup & their not imports, I may get the Pred. or Outlaw instead. Something with reverse.

Thanks again.

Find someone who has a modded 500 and test ride it.Properly set up they will hold their own.
You dont have to get into the cases to reclutch just pull the belt cover and there you are.

Doesn't Fuji make the motors for the Scrambler?

Thanks for the reply, I believe you when you say that, I have seen the sportsman 500ho run, they are pretty quick for their size/weight. So I would imagine the scrambler with the same engine plus less weight would be a touch quicker.
I dont know of anyone with a scrambler or I would test drive one.

I still think the scrambler is an awesome machine, you may have talked me into getting one. A younger me would not have even considered a scrambler, due to the power/weight ratio. plus I am approx 220lb (I'll be 28 friday 18th)

Im not ready to purchase yet, but I wanted to figure out what was going to fit me better, before Im ready to buy.

Thanks again

I am 230+ and mine wheelies on a whim and climbs like a goat. But like I said you have to reclutch them for what you want.
