Default 2000 Kawasaki Lakota- tapping/clicking noise

I have a tapping/clicking noise coming from the right side of the engine. It sounds like it is coming from the lower end of motor, but it is hard to tell. I have adjusted the valve clearance, so I know it is not coming from there. The engine starts quick and idles/runs smooth, just as it should. The sound is consistant at all levels of rpm. It has a self tensioner on the timing belt-has anyone ever had one go bad or come loose? Not sure this is the problem either. Any suggestions? Thanks. Dave

I just had to replace my timing chain and the noise that I had went away. Go to the search and put in "lakota" and you will find helpful stuff there. Hope that will help a lil

Thanks. Was your timing chain making a slapping noise or more of a tapping? It sounds like rocker tapping but I know the valve clearance is correct. I don't mind changing out the timing chain. Thanks!

Default Fixed it!

Come to find out it was the timing chain tensioner. When I removed it to inspect, it was stuck and would not release. Easy fix. Thanks
