Default 400EX, oil? filter? simple questions

Been a while since I have needed this forum for quad info because my 400 Kodiak has been used very little and has been dependable. I wanted to get a sport quad for my son & I and I just bought a well used , but stock, 2005 400ex . Before the first outing I want to change the oil. I will eventually hunt for original manuals and such on it, but for now can someone please just tell me how much oil it requires and does it have a filter? If so a part number on the filter. I also assume since it is well broken in that I can run synthetic in it now.? thanx , crossy

Honda 400EX ATV Oil Change Insturctions - ATV Technical Articles

Read the links I posted here: http://forums.atvconnection.com/honda/318931-oil.html

I highly recommend ester based synthetic oils like Redline, Maxima Extra, Maxima Ultra, or Maxima 530MX!

One warning on the 400EX. Seeing that it has an external oil tank. You will want to refill the tank full (takes a little less than 2 qts.), start the engine for a minute or so, then recheck the oil level. It will drop quite a bit, so top it up again and take it for a ride, then check it once again.

Also, never check the oil level on a cold engine! The oil goes and hides somewhere when the engine sits, so always wam it up and ride it before checking the oil.

A friend of mine overfilled his EX because he checked it cold, and the extra oil had no place to go. Luckily, he blew the hoses off the thank, rather than the seals out of the engine.
