Locker Question
#1
My father and I went riding this weekend and we quickly seen the flaw in the honda's four wheel drive system as his front wheel came up in this particularly muddy dip in the trail and was spinning like a wounded duck. A little later on on a different muddy section and the wheel that was getting all the torque was pulling the machine almost sideways when all four wheels were touching land. So the question lies in if anyone can recomend a good locker that can be turned on and off as needed like what Kawasaki, suzuki and yamaha have. Any input would be appreciated. He has a 2008 honda rancher straight axle.

You cant buy an aftermarket selectable locker. You can get a spool from highlifter that is locked all the time, but the better product is the ATV locker by detroit locker (who have been making lockers for cars/trucks for years).

I guess it is not such a big deal if they are locked all the time anyways. We usually ride in 2 wheel drive anyways. More fun trying to navigate obsticals like that anyways and only useing 4x4 when needed. Just sucks because when he did need it, it didn't help much.

I have a spool from highlifter in my Foreman, I also have a WARN 424 selector kit. With the spool steering is still stiffer then stock even in 2wd, but its less noticeable at speed, and nearly undetectable at speed and on loose surfaces.
From what I hear with a Detroit locker is that it unlocks when you let off the gas (or in the case of running in 2wd it stays unlocked) so steering feels lighter then when running a spool.
Its a great product, but for me, it was a difference of spending $35 for a spool or spending $300.

So i was reading up on the High Lifter Detroit Easy Steer Gearless Locker and found out how it works. It allows you to keep your steering by allowing your outside wheel to spin faster but never to allow the tire to turn slower then what the drive shaft is turning at only down side to this is that it is like $300. has any one used this any problems? i might pick one up
