Default Using Kerosene as a engine parts cleaner

I bought a Rubicon with a blown tranny so I bought a whole other used engine and swapped it in.

However, I didn't clean the oil tank out very well, and some of the small metal shavings that were from the first blown tranny are backing up my oil filter quite often.

I was wondering if it would be possible and how much harm it would do if I put kerosene in instead of oil, took out the spark plug and turned over the engine a few times just so that i could get the kerosene flowing through the system to clean it out.... then drain and put oil back in....

I was suggested this method, but wanted to get the opinion of a few others to see if anyone has done this before or had a better way to clean an engine out (mainly just the oil tank) without a complete disassembly.

Thanks!

If you've got metal shavings floating around in there, I think you would be better off tearing it down and cleaning it.

I'd also replace the oil cooler.

I would not use kerosene. Just get a less expensive but still good quality oil (like Maxima Premium) in a light weight (5W30 if your manual specs it) and a bunch of filters, and just change it all out frequently until the filings go away.
