I was speaking to a ATV enthusist today, discussing my desire to get a 4x4 that rides nice, offers utility for hunting yet is fun to ride. He said the Wolverine is the best combination of those features on the market, including all manufacturers. However, given strong demand, it is not easy to find used ones that are discounted very much (to fit my budget).

I was really looking at the polaris sportsman 335 and some of the Honda models, not really considering Yam. He said Yam and Honda make some of the most reliable atv's on the market. I knew honda was good but did not realize yamaha was so great.

Do you agree?

Tatally agree with you.

I was talking to a guy at a Yamaha dealer he said Yamaha have the cheapest ATV's on the market when they compare their ATV sizes with others.

I have had several Atv's and the Wolverine is the best one I have found to suit my needs.....fast, reliable four wheel drive machine. I have a supertrapp exhaust,K&N dyno kit and a pro flow air filter system on it and it has been rock solid so far!!

The Wolverine is the only way to go...
All my friends told me I was making a mistake when I went to buy my 97' Wolverine..now they all eat my dust when we go riding. They all ride honda's and polaris 4x4s. If you want something to hunt with and seriously play around on...you can't go wrong with the wolverine. The fact that it is hard to find used Wolverine's should speak for itself!

I used to have a '96 Wolverine and it was a nice machine. I didn't have any major problems. I bent a rear rim on one ride by hitting a rock. It bent because the stock tires are low pros and don't offer any protection to the wheel. On another ride the quad backfired during starting and blew the carb out of the manifold. I just loosened the clamp and reinstalled it. I would go with any brand quad except a Polaris. The Scrambler that my brother had was a total pile. It went through the mud and snow better than my Wolverine but relability wise the Polaris was junk. It was also very hard to work on.

Read the new ATV-Action shootout between the Scram 500 4x4 and the Wolverine. This article was one of the most unbiased and informative shootouts I have read. The magazine gives the nod to the Scrambler but it brings up lots of good points about the Wolverine as well. They are both great bikes and you will not go wrong with either. What I thought was cool about the Wolverine and the article mentions also is how much cheaper and easier it is to apply performance mods. That is a good selling point IMHO. We always want to make our bikes faster/better/stronger etc.

Don't listen to people who say Polaris is a pile of junk. I assure you they are not and I wonder where these Polaris bashing people get their information. I still don't fully understand why people feel the need to bash Polaris and can only think it is because Polaris is the #2 seller of ATVs and they displaced Yamaha. I don't think you can get to #2 and be a total piece of junk.

My bike is well-maintained and I have not had to use my extended warranty at all. Keep in mind that any bike will need to be maintained and that applies to all makes.....yes even Honda LOL.

Regards,

MrMan

Hey Mrman,
That's great that you like your Polaris and haven't had any trouble with it. The polaris we had was the biggest piece of **** I have ever seen. Some people love'em others hate them. I fall into the latter. The '95 Scrambler 400 of my brothers was faster and more powerful then my Wolverine. It also went through deep snow and mud better than the wolverine by virtue of the auto tranny and real 4 wheel drive. When it came time to work on the Polaris it was a nightmare. Way difficult to take the plastic off and you had to take the plastic off to get at anything. The Polaris was also heavier and very awkward feeling when you rode it. For handling the Wolverine was much better balenced and comfortable to ride. Like I said, some people love Polaris and others hate them. Tealboy will need to decide for himself. I would recommend against Polaris.

Yes! I thought that was a really fair test also.
A 500cc against a 350c..........cmon gimmie a break! I don't think you will be sorry if you got a Wolverine.....the reliability is far better then Polaris from everything I have heard.

hey tealboy, how's it goin'.You fellas must be easy on your wolverines down there in the states.I have one in my shop right now, a 99 with the crank out, a bent rear brake disk, bad u-joints,wheel bearings, bad rear axle bearings and probably more problems, but i'm scared to look at it too hard.
But hey,,,they're actually a pretty good machine. If you buy used make sure you check :front driveshaft u-joints,wheel bearings, that slide pins in the rear brake caliper are moving freely, play in the rear axle bearings, and also two other common things,,the throttle cable chafes through where it is routed through a steel hoop in the frame under the gas tank and the seat will chafe a hole in the top cover on the carb.My cousin and a friend of ours also run wolverines and these are all common problems.By the way, there are lots of used wolverines in atlantic canada!
