I've always been a suburban/urbanite and trails aren't really my thing. However, I love how atvs look and I've always wanted one. My original plan was to find a regular sub-50cc atv, put some honda road tires on it, and just ride it around town under 35mph like you would a scooter.

Then, I found these:

I've been reading on the legal implications of street atvs, and my plan would be to have my uncle in arizona buy and title it, "sell" it to me, and I transfer the title to georgia.

My big concern is what looks like a solid read axle... Is it really solid, or is there some hidden diff I'm not seeing.

No diff. That's a solid axle.

 

I know that Polaris had on-road ATVs that they called Quadricycles or something like that. They were ATVs with street tires and the needed lighting and a horn. I believe they were sold in Europe. I didn't see a link on the 2010 model lineup site.

 

Can AM has a nice one but its only a 3 wheeler. its a 1000cc though.

 

Oh yeah, I forgot about the Spyder. Nice looking but mucho $$$$$s.

 

In Europe its common to see ATVs on the road, in fact many models have lights, mirrors and a horn right from the factory.....easy as pie to register and ride.

Dont know of any state allowing it here in the US.....but then I dont know everything.

Why would a solid rear axle be a "big concern" ....I don't understand....

 

No street machine has full time lock rear ends,limited slip, positive rear ends at most,steering and tire wear would be a problem on pavement.

Ride a equipped Polaris ATV on the street with the turf mode option , its amazingly better in ride in every way vs a full time locked 2wd rear end.

LOVE the look of it though.

 

in georgia , no off road vehicle can be titled for street use.
least thats the way its was a few years ago.. we used to build rock crawlers/ buggys and couldnt find a way to get them street legal.

mainly due to insurance and safety lights.

there is a clause about farm use vehicles being able to get a tag without a title but you cant just go cruising with it.

now if you wanted to get creative.
buy it yourself, dont worry about a title

go buy a junked street bike..one with a clean title

cut a chunk of the frame out ...the part with the vin, and cut the same size chunk out of your new vehicle.

weld to gether ...smooth the welds, repaint and call it a modified street bike.

you still have to add brake lights, turn signals, flashers, and a horn
and have it inspected, depending on the status of the junked title (salvage)
but if the title is clean and the numbers match your good!


that is the only way we could get our rock crawlers on the road, was to buy a junked jeep and use the frame and dash parts...and title it as an old jeep cherokee.

of course if you get caught doing this I'm sure you could go to jail or pay a huge fine
