Default 2005 sportsman 700 efi

Hello Im posting for a buddy of mine he is having some issues with his 05 700 sportsman the bike only has 80 hrs and 160 miles on it since new he said that it is wanting to overheat and now the fan is not wanting to come on or go off he checked all the fuses there all good also he said something about a thermostar....? so any advice on this would help greatly like what to look for or check on

The other problem he is having is with the rear brakes they re-bled the lines the pads are good and had great pressure through the lines they re-installed the lines and he had good rear brakes for like a day and then they let go again like when he pushes down on the pedal theres nothing there they looked for leaks there are none so what could this be caused from?

Thanks for any help on this guys.....................

Probably the thermal sensor located on the bottom of the radiator. You can unplug it and then turn the key switch to on. If the fan kicks on then you know the sensor is bad.
I think the default for that year is that the fan will kick on if the plug is unplugged. IF the fan does not kick on you can try to use a jumper wire inside the connector. If it still does not come on then you have a fan issue. The brakes sound to me like the bleeder screw may be loose???or there is still air in the lines...try to re-bleed.

that bike might be under the emc recall. can't remember if the 700's were inclued or not?? if not check for the rad. being plugged and as mentioned check the sensor(yes it does default to turn on) to see if fan is working. the rear brakes on these suck for sure. try putting a heay weight on the pedal overnight to see if it will build pressure. it's the nature of the back brakes. sometimes bleeding works, but as you see it doesn't last.

About your overheat if you still have the OEM antifreeze in (5 years) you need to change it. Install a good flush possible it plugged up internal (preventive maintenance) from silicate dropout.

believe it or not i had similar issue, but it wasn't electronic at all. There was a small twig jammed in, very difficult to see as it had broken off and very small piece was jammed in. Apologize if stating the obvious, but def take a look and make sure the fan turns freely without the engine on.

The 05 700s are on the ECM recall list. Polaris Expands ATV Recall

Good news is there is no time limit to get it done,I think.

The back foot brakes are only for emergency's and are on its own system, the brake hand leaver controls both the front and back brakes at once at a 60/40 ration 60 being the front.

Hey guys thanks for all the help so far, Well we looked into our problem yesterday and we could not get it to do what its suppose to. I will tell you everything we have done so far....We installed a brand new battery, Disconected the plug from the theramstar sensor, started the machine and the fan would not come on. We then hard wired the fan direct to a battery which told us the fan does operate just fine, we also installed a brand new filler neck as we were told by a local polaris shop that sometimes they warp and will not hold the pressure needed due to air pockets. We had the dealer Ohm test all 4 fuses and 2 different thermastar sensors and all checked out good. So we re-installed everything topped it off with fresh fluid started the machine with the radiator cap off and sat and watched it under idle and filled more fluid as needed then installed the radiator cap, and the Diagnosis was that as it was warming up and getting hotter the overflow bottle was filling to the top, if you gave it throttle it would suck some back out but not as fast as it would rise and we had noticed that the fan had never come on once. then it came out of the hole on top of the bottle to relieve its self so we shut her down to try another day...........

We called our polaris dealer and had him run the vin# and he said there has been no service bulletins for his machine as of yet, Also we were told that the ecm recall was for carburated models only not the efi models....I think the next thing were going to check is the relays
