Default 2002 300 4x4 Smoking heavily

Hi guys,

New to this forum. Just bought a 2002 300 4x4 picked it up very cheap. It starts right up with the choke on then starts to smoke heavily if you try to turn the choke off it stalls out immediatly. Also while it is running with the choke on if you give it throttle it does not respond very well. I did take apart the carb and clean it that did nothing. The air filter was clogged I tried running it with no air filter but it still smoked. I guess next I will check compression what should the psi be? Anyone have any ideas what can be the problem? Thanks for the help

what color is the smoke,Black, white? i had a 99 300 and in the manual it said DO NOT OIL the air filter and within 700 miles my rings were shot. my friend had the same problem so when you get up and running, buy an air filter you can oil so it stops the dirt from getting in the cylinder and ruining your rings .

The smoke is not black it is more white but I would say more light gray. It really smeels more like it is choking out. But I really am suspecting valve guides or rings
