oil question
#1
hi, i'm pretty new to atvs. i'm working on my automotive engineering degree right now, so i can't really afford a fast car to wrench around with, so i decided to look into atvs. i just bought a 99 warrior, and i'm wondering about what kind of oil to use. i don't mean 10w30 or anything like that, i'm very familier how to use those ratings. but i mean, any particular brand anyone likes to use? and how about synthetic vs regular oil. the reason i ask is because i have a couple quarts of castrol sytex laying around the house that i used on my old camaro. i used it because chevys tend to get pretty hot and syntex has the highest heat resistance around, i know that from some tests i did on it. but a warrior has an air cooled engine so i figured it might work well with it. well let me know what you guys think, and forgive my newness.

You cannot use a motor oil with any slippage type addatives, Warriors use a wet clutch system (similar to an automatic trans from what I am told)
You can use any automotive SAE 10w30 type SE oil. I have heard of people running ATF, but have also heard lots of varied opinions on this. Transmissions do tend to run fairly hot, and lots of people have installed external oil coolers on their Warriors.

Mobil 1 has a new synthetic oil out for air cooled motorcycle/atv engines with wet clutch systems. Its called Mobil 1 V Twin and comes in 10-40 and 20-50 weights. Not cheap at 8 bucks a quart but, not a whole lot more expensive than the
manufacters oil. Just thought this forum would like the info.. I bought the 20-50 for my rancher es 4x4 but since i had just changed the oil at 10 hrs i'll wait a bit before i change it again
