Default LT/KFX 80 poor front brakes

The front brakes on my sons 03 KFX that I recently picked are really bad. I know I am heavier than him (180lbs vs 50lbs) but I feel this thing should be slowing me down faster than it currently is. His LT50 stops in about half the distance with me on it. I tightened up the cables but it still didn't seem to make a difference. Is there anything other than replacing the brake pads I should be looking at? He wont be riding it until I can get these brakes fixed

Take the front brakes apart and make sure they are good and clean. If the pads look shiny or contaminated then scuff them up some. That should get you where you need.

Remove the pin in the backing plate that moves the brakes and lubricate it.
