Default Rear shocks maintenance

All,

I have had a squatting issue with my rear shocks for sometime now. I hope to do some
maintenance soon. I know alot of folks would recommend upgrading but I have less than 300 miles on my SP800. I think I saw evidence of the fluid leak awhile back. Of course I was pushing near 400lbs. Lost 70 lbs now, thank God! (Still a long way to go) So my question is do any of you maintenance these rear shocks with fluid replacement/seals or other something?

Thanks,

R'

i have never even looked at the shocks to see if there serviable or not, but i woukld tend to think they are. most likey throw away models and just replace w/ new ones that are heavy duty. p.s congrads on the weight loss.

I'm not sure what you mean by "squat issue" but if I assume its that the rear is sitting lower, that will not be your shocks. Shocks don't add any height but are there for cushioning only. If you have a squat issue, your suspension is either worn or overloaded. This is coming from my automotive knowledge so perhaps Polaris has invented something other than a shock to put back there.
Cheers,

The springs are what is squatting. The 800's seemed to be the worst. I remember reading that some replaced the springs with EPI springs and solved their problem.

You can get HD Springs and set them to a setting that makes you think you welded all your IRS pivot points if you like but it will ride like a cement truck.

Shocks control the springs rebound only, springs carry the load.

i beleave guys he's asking about servicing the leaking rear shocks and not about puting differnt springs on as he already knows he needs heavier springs to make up the differnce.

Hey "R", don't know about the shocks but congratulations on the lifestyle change.

20 yrs ago I hit 300 lbs but took off 120 lbs and kept it off - Calories in VS Calories out.

Keep it up guy!

This probably isn't quiet what your looking for but...My bud runs a couple 05 500's, he bought one new and the second for his wife in 07. The one he bought used for his wife squatted in the rear, he had to replace the springs. The one he bought new, every time he was done riding it went in the garage and a floor jack was placed under it, jacked up so all 4 tires were just on the ground. Both machines have a floor jack and are jacked up at all times unless riding. His machines don't squat, just about every polaris w/IRS I've seen loaded does. His thinking comes from years of racing snoX...get the weight off the suspension!

I'm a polaris fan, they make great machines...but WHY all the issues with squatting...they all do it after a year or two unless you put heavier shocks/springs/spacers or go through preventative measures like jacking them up after every use. They ride like a cadillac but when it comes to utility use or loading the machine, the suspension is less than adequate.

It's simple guys.........If you want the soft plush ride of the well known Sportsman ...................There will need to be some squatting somewhere!!!

IMO........That's what makes the Polaris the best riding Utility Quad on the maket today for ride comfort...........
If you want it stiff and not to squat..........Then Polaris may not be the right Quad for you(unless change from factory parts)........IMO......Caper............
