Default 03 Trail Boss, Conventional or Unconventional fix

I was letting some young ones ride my 03 trailboss over the holidays. Of course they ran i hard daily and never checked the oil. I now have 330 motor in need of a rebuild. It did not lock up but doesn't want to start. I have about 3 options, Look for another motor-have this one rebuilt. Or possibly find an old streetbike with a bigger motor and try to convert it to work on it. Sure would be nice to have the trailboss ride with twice the hp. Any ideas. Or ideas on cost of a rebuild. Thanks Tony

When you say doesn't want to start, what are the symptoms?

Were there any metal shavings in the oil (if any) that was left?

Putting a bigger motor in my sound nice, but buying a sportsman 500 sounds a whole lot easier.

From the story I heard they shut it down a few times thinking it needed to cool off for some reason. Eventually it died and would not restart. I have not changed the oil yet. It does not crank like it should. Seems tight. So I quit messing with it for now. I saw a 1980 suzuki gs550 for about 300. THat would be a nice powerhouse if it could work. Tony

If you have the tools, you can make it fit. But the matching the tranny could be a real challenge. Be a heckuva ride, I'm sure.

Good luck with which ever route you decide to go. If you need anything from a service manual, I have the 325 version. Pretty much the same except for internal differences.

If it still has oil in check the other things first like the belt and clutches. If they are good and working properly check the valves before jumping into motor changes.
