Default new atv, have a couple questions can anyone help?

I have a Red Cat 90cc semi-auto + elec. start that i picked up for a pretty good price... while i know these little 90s are for kids, i'm 22 and decided to buy it it should be all i need for what i bought it for.. just messing around in the snow.

I know it needs a couple things, very small.. The battery..Got one on the way..it needs the throttle box on the handlebar reassembled.. (does anyone have a how-to on this??? my computer is sooo slow to search with!)

and lastly, it needs the float? that goes on the top of the carb, at the end of the throttle cable... i have the throttle cable and part that screws on to top of carb, as well as the spring.. but theres no needle/slide... what is this called? i can't seem to find the correct name. and can anyone reffer me to a how to on how to correctly put a new one in? or is it just 'plug and play'?

sorry for the mob of questions.
any help appreciated!

Heck Im 49 and mess around on my 90cc mini utility all the time..(fall off it a bit too)

I could take a pic of one of my thumb throttles with the cover off...That might help?

You need a slide (the needle sticks out of the bottom of the slide...not sure if you will be able to buy just the slide/needle..Maybe on ebay? The end of the cable hooks thru the slide to connect it to the throttle cable.

I have no idea about safety devices but its pretty easy to check for spark if it doesnt run..

thanks for the reply! well i went to a local quad dealer and got a new slide/needle and spring.. one thing off the list. next i was looking around and noticed toward the back there seems to be a hookup where a lanyard looks like it plugs in, with 2 wires coming from it... so im assuming thats a safety shutoff.. but the key end of the lanyard shutoff is gone, so would just un hooking or grounding out the wire from it disable this safey feature?

And lastly, yes it would help a bunch if you could take a pic of inside of your throttle box!! thanks

Unhook the device by following the wires to the connector between it and the wiring harness. Unplug that connector to disable the lanyard device. If you short the two wires the quad will crank over with the starter motor but will not start (no spark).

When you insert that lanyard plug into the quad receptacle it forces open a spring loaded switch. When the lanyard is pulled off the switch snaps closed and shorts a pin on the CDI to ground which kills the spark.

Thank you that helps a bunch and saved me a headache!

I've been working all week haven't had much time to mess with it but I have the weekend off so hopefully should have it going!

I'd hate to have to ask another question haha. I'm a sub-forum moderator on my s10 forum so I know how us newbies get, but I appreciate the help!

my question is... I read on a search on the forums that you need to be sure in the way you put the carb slide in. Because theres only 2 ways and one way is wide open and will take off at high rpm upon starting..

So before taking a guess and possibly making a mess, does the angled side of the slide face in toward the direction of intake/engine or out toward the air filter/outside? (probably a dumb question and I appoligize lol).

Thanks,
Mike

well i figured out the carb slide, wasn't too difficult... more common sense then anything HAHA

but now i have a differant question, one a little more concerning...

first off, the quad doesn't have an ignition the previous owner said it didn't come with one but every 90cc I seen online has a key ignition. My wiring seems all there however so it confuses me.
Should this definetly have a key ignition?

Second question, I have yet to ride the quad yet as I bought it used and it needed a good carb cleaning new gas and oil as well as a new plug. So I was rolling it to my garage and decided I'd give it a rolling pop start attempt as I don't have a battery yet (will have it wedsday when I get paid!) so long story short I put it in gear and held my foot on the gear (since it's a semi auto with no manual clutch control) started rolling it down my driveway and a horrible pinging popping king of sound was coming out of the general area of the foot shift and the popping could be felt in the shift pedal slightly... Now this hase nervous so I didn't atempt to pop start after thAt....this is my first semi Auto shift motor it was in nuetral I clicked the foot pedal down 2geArs. This is 2nd gear correct?

The atv rolls perfect in nuetral but when trying to roll with shift pedal pressed down it still rolls but makes that un inviting sound... I Wish that I could explain the sound it make in better detail but I'm not sure how else to put it lol...sorry.

To make it easier can anyone please point me in the direction of what to check before riding it and making things worse....it makes the noise when any gear but neutral is selected and held down to allow the atv to roll... I'm handy with these things just not to familiar with these kind of engine and transmission setups any help and insight Is greatly appreciated in advance.

also, is there supposed to be a seal or gasket between the throttle cable and the metal 'elbo' on the piece that screws into the top of the carb?? somethings telling me that gas would squirt out of there LOL...

and if my gas cap doesn't have a vent but has the vent hole, would that hurt anything as long as i'm not hardcore riding yet? I need to order all new hoses.
