Default Magnum 425 only getting 3 wheel drive.

For some reason when I engage the 4x4 all wheels but the front right (if you are in riding position) will spin. Which as you may guess makes it pretty hard to plow any snow because it just sends you in circles.

Has anybody seen this issue before? Any suggestions on what I can do to resolve the issuee?

I thought maybe it was the battery because I heard there was something to do with that but that didn't help either.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Check your wires going to that wheel..There are two small wires that go to each front wheel..I have found a lot of those broken off ..They are inside of black plastic that run from wheel up to the electrical hookup .

depending on the year, you could have sheared the keyway in the axle. My 94 sportsman did that. 95 and up they went to a splined axle which is much stronger. I have no clue what years they made the 425 magnum so just throwing that out there.

Other then that it could be a hilliard clutch, hub wear, magnetic coil, armature plate or just plain low on fluid. rip it apart and start testing. Veryify power to the coi. Check the coil for ~25 ohms to make sure its not shorted out and make sure the armature plate is true and flat.

Thank you for all the input everyone got the chance to take a look this weekend and I do have good power to the hub, same voltage as the side that works all the way down to where it goes into the hub. Then I took off the plug and guess what I can see that there was oil in there but not enough to dump out a drop. So what kind of fluid is recommended? Just go to an ATV place and ask for hub oil? What are the chances it will re-engage now that it has been dryed out. Is there anything anybody recommends to help it engage once I have the fluid it in? Just tap on the hub or something?

Thanks again!

Okay I added the type f fluid and tried it right away but it didn't start working yet, so I got power, I got fluid and still not spinning, I can see the axle going into the drive spinning. I thought maybe if it soaked for a while maybe some magic would happen. Just wondering if anybody has any other suggestions.

Thanks.

If you have 12 volts going to the hub coil and it doesnt work then the coil is bad or there is a bad armature plate or hilliard clutch, you will have to take it apart to see.
