I put a white spring in a few days ago and today we did 39 miles of swamp, mud trails, and LAKES in the snow.
tHERE WAS 18 OF US ,Rubys,grizz's,500 sportsman's,my duse and everything inbetween....
it was one hell of a ride.
well after it was over I was riding and heard a noise ,When I got home I pulled the cover and my belt was torn up.Now when I put the spring on I turned the moter over with the hammer still in and it snaped the hammer, but that had nothing to do with the belt.Question is should I put the old spring back in before I take it to the dealer?
I also lost 6-7 mph off the top,I thought you werent supposed to lose anything?Am I wrong??I was takeing the speedo past the 60 now it's at57???Dont like that.
Well atleast it dident happen till the end of the day,AFTER I "PUSHED"THE GRIZ AND RUBY OUT

hey guys,

the answer is here... here's how it all works...

I love my Trailboss, but i was doing a little MX-like racin with some friends, a recon, a fourtrax 300 2X4 and a Bayou 220. I knew i could beet them, but wanted a little more, so about a month before i raced them, i put in the Grean Spring. it allowed the engine to rev to a HUGE RPM and then engaged the belt... Now, no matter what anybody tells me, that isn't good for the belt. to engage the belt casually like you do at stock, that is fine. but taching it up to 4500+ and then engaging. that can't be good.

So i put in the white spring. The Engagement RPMs were where i liked them...still a pain tol load on the trailer since you had to hit it pretty hard. but thats alright. I headed out to the trak, and guess what. this one accelerated even slower then stock! (for me anyway) and it took 2.5 MPH off of my top speed.

my advice to you; do what i did. stick with stock. I just did a few practice laps, then when the guys came over... I beat them pretty good.

Good luck!

Hey 500DUSE,
It will lose a little top end as the belt gets wore. You're bad belt may have been the cause of the top end loss. I would replace the belt, then check it again to make sure the spring is the cause of speed loss. I doubt the dealer will check the spring in it, but I wouldn't leave the machine up there anyway. It only takes 10 minutes to replace it, and the dealer will probably want to keep it a couple of days.

Well the cover has to be replaced also(dont know if they have that in stock)because as the belt shreded it cut a thin 4"line in the cover, cut thru the 2 tie straps and the rubber gasket to the air inlet.
Yeah I think I agree with ya on the belt being shot being the reason I lost so much topend.I was smelling it when the ruby and I were running.

Hate to hear about it doing that much damage.. Do you think the dealer will warranty the cover as damage caused by the belt?
I guess I was lucky, I was twisting mine hard, when I heard it start making loud popping/scratching noises. I backed out of it and limped it to the truck. I caught it before it could damage the cover. I'm thinking of carrying a spare belt under the seat in case it does it again. I may not be so lucky trying to ride it back next time.
