ATV Weight and Mileage rates
#1
So I was just checking out the specs between the XP and former Sportsman classes. Interesting to know that there is a 12lb diff between EPS and non-EPS models as well as mileage differences. Hmmm why is that?
I was also interested to know if the "true" DRY weight of the ATV's is without tires or with them? Just seems to me that when you add different tire combo's, winch, racks, bumpers etc. you add a significant more weight to the ATV. Some special models have these components so I think that would effect the weight. So I assume DRY just means that, no added stuff even if special model etc. right? Dry weight would be without the EPS and ADC for former Sportsmans (if added accessory)?
Thanks,
R'

As far as milage difference goes. Somewhere I read that the models with EPS have a smaller tank than the non EPS to accomodate for the extra parts. Truth or fiction?

For 2010, the EPS models are heavier not only because of the EPS, but they have the cast aluminum wheels also. Yes, the tank is bigger on the non EPS models. I think R' was talking about actual MPG. Not sure how that could make a difference.

As said dry weight is with no fluids...apparenlty NONE...ie no fuel obviously,no coolant,no oils ect..wet weight would be all fluids topped off including fuel.
With that said obviously an LE with the winch ect doesn't weigh what a base model does but the listed weights are the same..I assume that the weights they list are always for a base model,or the lightest model lol...Last year they didn't even list a seperate weight for the EPS version did they? I think it is probably just to much of a pain to weigh every possible combination.

My BAD! Your absolutely right, its fuel capcity. Still wanted to know why on the EPS Vs. n-EPS. You all answered that, bigger tank. That sux, you buy a more expensive model for improvements and get a smaller tank, seems like its just not right. Ohh well, still a .x better than our older Sportsmans.
Okay wet weight= with fluids. Dry weight = w/o fluids. seems a little better to understand and yea HO I was referencing the spec sheet on the Polaris web site for LE and other editions of the same class (550 and 850). Seems like Polaris just keeps the weight at a base and doesn't factor in the winch, wheels etc. like you said on those pages.
Some may say or think, BFD! But I can't tell ya how many times my friends with Yammys and Honda etc. always bring up the weight issue when they compare theirs to Polaris. I guess Polaris knows this as a huge purchase factor and won't reveal the weights on those other LE models and upgrades for concern it could effect the purchase. - IMO
