Looking for suggestion on tire sizes. What are thr pros and cons to larger tires and also same size on all 4 wheels?

 

That depends on what you are planning on using the machine for.

If you are looking at strictly a mud bog machine, you would want 28 or 29's and would need a gear down kit to spin them in peanut butter.

If you are going for general use/trail riding with some technical and mud/snow, I think I'd stick to 25's or 26's. Radials will ride better and provide better traction.

If you are looking at mostly rock and hard surfaces with some mud, sand and snow thrown in, Bighorn radials are my choice. I went with 25", that are actually about an inch higher than the factory dunlops (which are also 25's). They really handle and ride well, and seem to wear like iron.

ITP Terra Cross would also be a good choice for general use. The only complaint I'd ever heard about them is wear, and there is supposed to be a new more durable compound now.

In something a touch more aggressive but still smooth and good handling on the trail, XTR Mudlite radials would also be a nice choice.


The Rincon's main strength is how well it handles on rough trails at high speed. I'd be a bit hesitant to run the same width on the front, in that doing so might kill that handling.

 

If its any help I went with 26" Mud Lights, the frounts aren't as wide as the rears. I trail ride with lots of mud although I stay out of the deep stuff. I have been real pleased with this set up, may put a 2" lift on but I didn't want to spend extra cash and put new wheels to get the 28 inch tire. Good friend has a Rincon and used the 2 " lift , I've been watching him to see if he had any problems, none so far so I'm think on ordering me a lift soon, 60 bucks. I have also heard the Bighorn are really good all around trail tire, I almost bought those. Anyway I hope my ramblings help, good luck.

 

I have 26" Mudlite XTR's on mine w/ ITP rims. Front are 9" Wide and the rear is 11" wide. I like the set up. The only thing I don't like is the tires now stick outside the fenders a bit so I get a little dirtier that I used too. Also makes it a little wider for the tight trails.

for some reason, the 26" Mudlites I have put on my 500 Vinson seem really prone to punctures in the sidewalls. I love them otherwise, but finally got tired of replacing them so often. When I got my AC 650 TRV, I went with a set of 28" 589's and have had no problems.

 

Funny you say that with the side wall. Here is what mine looks like.....Left rear tire.

Took 10 plugs. About 7 in the top and 3 in the bottom. This one was my fault, I glanced a rock going a little fast and pinched on the rim. You can actually see where it dented the rim as well. Doesn't leak so I plan on keeping it that way. Tires are to new to replace at this point.
