Default 28" zilla vs 27" XTR

ok, im sure there are a hundred of these threads but i wanted some opinions anyway.

The terathons are not cutting in on the 850 so i have narrowed down the search between 28" zillas or 27" XTR's.

what im wondering is how will either do on trail/mud/ and rocks? what i mean by rocks is maybe not rock crawling, but riding over them in creeks, mud holes, and trails. I guess what im getting out is will either perform as well as the Outlaw MST's? my buddy has them and he goes through everything that we usually ride in.

i know from the Manufacturers website that the weight difference between the two will be about 21lbs. (28x11x14, 28x9x14 vs the same in 27" for the XTR's with the XTR's being heavier)

this is what we usually ride around in... and yes i know the pics of a grizzly, dont have any good ones of any of my polaris' going through the stuff.

I think the XTR is one of the best tires out there for all conditions!
Maybe not the best for a hardcore mudder but they have not let me down in any mud yet!

The XTR will be a smoother ride on the hard paack terrain but not quite as good in the deep mud. It is a better all around tire than the ZILA.

There are a bunch of guys with the 850 running the XTRs.

Thunder, how do yours measure, are they close to stated size or do they run short? the zillas, from what i read, run about an 1" short

Love my XTRs. I have 26" on a Polaris Sportsman X2. I've been through mud, water, over rocks, through snow, and on hard pack. They've been great for the hundred or so miles I've had them.

The XTRs are pretty true to size, the 27's are very close to 27". My only real complaint about the XTRs were the weight and the lack of quality control on the ITP tires(common to get tires that jump, wobble ect. They do pretty well otherwise, especially for not being a outright mud tire. Mainly due to the weight I think my next tire will be Zillas.

HO,

What's wrong with the 2.0's for the type of riding you do?

Nothing at all for 99% of the places I ride. This one trail system we recently started riding has some nasty holes, with no way around them.....the 2.0s did suprisingly well, but I'd feel a little better on that trail with a more mud specific tire. I'll be keeping the BHs and have a set of Zillas for the muddier rides.

They're at least 26". Maybe more like an extra 1/2" in diameter.
