Default help w/no spark on '01 Xplorer 400

Hello guys. First time on here. I bought this bike already torn up electrically. What I had at first was very poor and intermittant spark. Found the pick up coil was damaged so I replace the entire stator and pick up coil. Thought I had spark but when I put it back together I now don't. The left hand handle bar on/off switch is totally busted up. I found a schematic that shows what pins go where so for the time being I jumpered the pins. Will this bike run with out the on/off switch?

Now, I can't get any spark what so ever. I know the starter is bad but if I put the red main wire to the positive battery post I could get it to spin but it won't do that now(maybe just coinsidince?). I checked that the motor is grounded. What or where should I be looking now??? I thought for sure the stator was the problem. Now I am thinking maybe the CDI? If any of you have one of these that are parting out, let me know. I need a lot of parts!!!!

Disconnect the single black wire from the cdi unit (eliminates kill system) if then has spark then I would replace the damaged left control switch (check E-bay if you dont like dealer prices) OPT

OK thanks guys. I verified the key switch does work. I did try starting with that black wire unhooked as well and still no spark.

Can you or someone verify if this bike will run with the left off/on/off switch disconnected?

Hopefully my friend will pull through and let me borrow a CDI from a bike that has other issues at the moment so I can try to rule out things!!!!

If this is a 4stroke I might have a cdi unit you could test with. Is it?
