2001 Xplorer 400 Stator-pick up adjustment?
#1
I guess my other thread is dead. Still trying to get spark on my bike. I was reading somewhere that many times the pick up coil must me moved closer to the flywheel? If so, how to I get it closer with no fear of getting it smacked. I bought this with a no spark issue. The original pickup coil ( I replaced it along with the stator) looked like it got smacked. Also, do I need to take some sand paper and make the flywheel clean and shiney where the "bump" is for the pick up? Just trying to figure out why I don't have any spark here and don't want to plop $150 for a CDI until everything else is looked at and checked.

I believe the air gap is .016-.030 in from the tab. The flywheel doesn't need to be spottless. Just make sure there isn't a lot of buildup of rust or anything on the tab. Didn't see your other thread i guess. What all have you done?

Well I bought it knowing there was a no-spark issue and found the pick up coil bad from being hit so I replaced that along with the stator. Still have no spark.

Yes. I ended up getting it to fire and run. It was a bad ground at the coil. Now I have the delema to either continue on to fix this or to part it out. Ended up finding out the switches in the tranny are bad, on/off switch is bad, and I couldn't get either front hub to lock. I had a guy who said he was interested in trading his 500 Sportsman with a bad rear end for mine.

When you say bad rear end, I assume you mean the trans is bad? If you decide to trade for the 500, let me know. I have a cust that I am pretty sure gutted a 500 years ago and has a trans assy in his garage if your interested.

Thanks but I meant a 500 Magnum. Also the rear being bad I meant the axel is broke in 2 so I am sure the whole rear hub is bad as well. I haven't seen any rears on Ebay either so I am wondering if I should go for the Magnum or not. I was told the rest of the bike is fine though.
Mine on the other hand has electrical issues all over. Neither switch on the tranny is good, have a bad on/off switch, and neither hub will lock in.
