Default express 400 carb leaking from vent tube.

Im working on trying to tune and adjust carb after engine rebuild. I had a friend clean and reasenmble carb this weekend . we got it running late this the saterday nite but i wouldnt start the next day on sunday. I noticed gas pouring from the bowl vent over flow tub. i also noticed when i had carb off again to recheck carb ,the fuel cut off doesnt completely cut of fuel to carb. Is this why it was draining gas from the vent tube? also does this mean my motor is flooded with gas now causing it not to start. I took carb apart again and re cleaned every thing and reasembled but havnt tryied starting the atv again yet.

The nedle and seat in carb are bad and yes the motor is probably flooded, check the airbox for gas too.

No, Kerbbirds is refering to the needle and seat inside the carb. This is controlled by the float, which shuts fuel off from source when not needed.

Yes, I think you got it. It should seal fully seated. I personaly would check the float level spec, d'ont know your year model. I have seen few problems with a needle and seat unless there is a piece of debri inhibiting the seal

I have replaced several needle and seats that were leaking, usual cause is because people dont turn the gas off when not in use, this puts constant pressure on the needle and the end wears enough to let gas go by.

ok the square vaulve needle has a spring on top that ataches it to the float plate . When my friend disasembled it it came of the float plate . Does it just clip on by the one sided wire to the float tab plate? Also when i recleaned everything i noticed the seat or part needle goes in wasnt all the way tightened . I guess that caused it not to seat.

one othher quesstion when atv was running it wouldnot idle if you let the thumb throtlle go, it died . so my friend loosened the cable at the top of the carb cap. this helped a little but not mutch . i tightened it back up. then we adjusted cable at etc . this did help greatly. Does the solinoid in the etc kill the cause the problem with the idle?

I havent had time to retry the carb since 2nd cleaning and reasembly yet.

thanks

Not sure about the year, but there should be a large adjustment screw on the bottom of the carb for adjusting the idle.

its a 97 express 400. The atv is new to me , but i got it couple of months ago not running after it sat out in the weather for a year and a half with seized piston. . So im still finding out problems as i go along with its repairs.yes it does have an idle adjustment but it seemed not to help in geting it to idle on its own.. maybe it will behave diferently this weekend when i try it again.

Thanks for all the advice and help everyone.
