Default Lt80 exhaust opinions fmf dg owners

I have been researching for a new exhaust for my sons 4 wheeler. He ran his buggy into the back of it and crushed the small exhaust pipe which is now choking it down. I looked for a used one and for about a 20 year old pipe I'll end up spending $50.00. I figured I would just buy an aftermarket. I have read this will give little improvement over stock but the pipe has to be replaced. Key factor is I do not want it too load so the trinity is out of the question. I am looking at the fmf or the dg but no one seems to talk about the noise factor. For him to ride in the neighborhood it can't be too loud to keep the neighbors happy. If someone knows where I can get a good deal on a used factory pipe that would be great. I just do not want a rusted out 20 year old pipe that will need replacing in a few years. What are you guys with the dg or fmf experiences as far as peformance and noise. Thanks in advance
Regards
David

The DG is loud especially after the silencer gets knocked off (they seem to get hit alot).
I personally don't care for the FMF.
To be honest, the stock pipe performs well and is your best bet IMO.
I see pipes on ebay all the time, rusted and not.
I'd think a rusty old pipe will still give you more than your moneys worth.

i got a replacement for my sons lt-80 for about 25 dollars off ebay , it looked "rusted" but it was all surface rust, i hit it with a wire wheel and sprayed it with black paint and it still looks brand new and its nice and quiet

LT80 I don't think you maybe qualified enough to give an answer. J/K
Let me ask you this is there anything internal that wears out in the pipe over age? Or is it all metal no baffiling material. The reason I ask we have two of these and the 04 seems to be not near as loud as the 98. Both have the same mods shaved head rear clutch lightened smaller jet. #40 chain conversion. Pretty much everything that you recommend before going to a full race motor which hopefully you will be able to do for me in the future when the boy is older and can handle it. The 04 is the one the exhaust got damaged which stinks. Did suzuki make any changes in the exhaust? From what I can tell no but I am by no means qualified or knowledgeable to say for sure. Your thoughts are very much appreciated and respected

The 1987-88 pipes were the best. They did make a slight change in 89. All the same now. I suppose some pipes could rust a lil inside and blow a lil material out.
Straighten out the nipple and remove the drain bolt and run it.

I wish it was that easy. It'll be a little more work than that. The plug is already out. The pipe bent at the bottom were it meets with the arrester. It tore the metal a little around the arrester and completley creased the pipe down to nothing . I am just going to cut it down at the base and bend the pipe back out and reweld it. I figured for the amount of hours I was going to put in repairing it it would be about the same for me to buy another used one till I priced used ones. Then I thought maybe an upgrade "in looks" would be cool but noise is my major concern.

Ive got the FMF.....its not crazy loud but its definitely louder then stock. Its pushing the limits of what I would run in town. I get away with it but I have some great neighbors.....
