Default 500 ho noisy

Hi guys I have a 2007 efi x2 500. since new it had a little noise under load almost a ping but a little heavier was told it to be normal. Now at 1500miles it sounds like a bag of hammers and its losing a bit of power in mid range but at wide open it picks up and noise level lessens(still loud) I was thinking piston slap but cant make it do it without a load like an incline or hill. Could it be a clutch? any thoughts apreciated. P.S Iam acar mechanic so dont hold back on the tech talk.

Check the buttons on the drive clutch for wear. Also check if the spider (where the six buttons are) for slack back and forth against the buttons, could be cause of noise. I've heard some as noisy as a diesel engine when front clutch components begin to wear. You have to have the spider removal tool to replace the buttons OR bring the clutch into a shop that can do it if this is your problem. Good luck OPT

I put a kit in this about a year ago and at that time I noticed the bushing for the moving half seemed to have play so I will overhaul the clutch. And yes I have a spider tool thanks for the input.
