Polaris Xplorer 300 Questions
#1
I recently bought a used Polaris Xplorer 300 4x4 to use around the farm. It works great. Don't have any manuals, etc. Just have two questions.
1. A switch on drivers left labeled "Res Off On" - doesn't seem to do anything - What is it?
2. I believe the motor is 2-cycle oil-injected. Why doesn't the oil level in the front tank change?

The switch is the gas valve, it has on, off and reseve, to avoid future problems with the carb, turn gas off when machine is parked , the oil level should drop as you ride the machine, unless someone has diconnected the pump and was mixing their gas and oil.

The switch is the fuel valve, turns fuel from tank on/off, "res" is fuel reserve. The 300 is a two stroke and does not use much oil. If it is smoking when running, it's oiling. You do need to verify this as no oil will cause engine damage.

Thanks for your help. Since the switch doesn't do anything, it must be disconnected. The oil level not going down is a reason for concern. Maybe I should use a mix instead of just gas. What would be a reasonable mix ratio, or should I dig deeper to see why oil isn't being used.

I mixed 40:1 ,then checked the oiling system on my bike. Changed the filter first, found it clogged at the check valve. Cleaned that out and rechecked oil delivery. I use my oiling system and like it. My 400 uses very little oil, it goes down very slowly. You can check out the oiling system using the search on this forum. I had some questions a couple of months back and got some answers. If you do premix and your oil delivery is ok you will have a fouled plug soon.
