Sportsman 800 starter problems
#1
Starter motor engages as soon as the key is turned on and keeps turning. Turning key off is the only way to stop it even keeps running with kill switch set to "off" Pulled the starter power wire to chase the problem and with my limited electrical skills I've worked back to the solenoid, which clicks as soon as the key is turned to the on position not the start position. So my question would be how do I test to see if the solenoid is faulty and if not then is it the ignition/kill switch??

After playing with it some more the three wires that attach to the power side of the solenoid with the wire from the battery seem to be the problem even though it does not make sense. Moving these wires with the key on would dis-engage the solenoid and they seemed to be stuck together. I pulled them apart, could not find any bare wire(which doesn't make sense since they all connect to the positive side any way) but once pulled apart all is ok again. I pulled on and moved all the wires coming from the solenoid and could not make it stick on again. Put everything back together and went out for a run and all is ok. I hate chasing electrical problems.
I know what you are saying ECW about the ignition switch but I stopped and started it many times while out but could not duplicate the problem.........
