Default new guy, couple ?'s

i got a used 2002 polaris sportsman 90 a couple years ago and now have some maint questions if you could help. it is a 2 stroke but doesn't seem to use much oil (it's oil injected). By not much i mean 10-12 tanks, i'd guess about 1.5 gallons, and i've not had to refill the oil resevor yet. It is maybe 1/2 full still, i filled it last year. recently i had to replace the spark plug cap becasue the plastic threads were worn off. Anyway, new plug and cap got it running but it seems to lack any get up and go, i know it's a 90 but it isn't as quick as it was. i'm gonna check the air filter and clean or replace but i have also read about cleaning out the exhaust pipe with kerosene as part of the maint. thanks

a small engine like that and in the summer time wouldnt require much oil and if your spark plug isn't oil fouled or isnt extremly white then i would say your fine w/ that. if not it would have seized the engine by now if it wasn't getting enough oil. like any 2 stroke the carb and air flow either intake or exhaust is a big part of the power of these bikes. check both as you mentioned to see if dirty.

The oil in the reseervior last quite a long time. Make sure you use the Polaris two stroke oil when it is time to refill. If you start losing pawer it may be time for apiston and rings.
