Hawkeye questions
#1
I have a 2007 Hawkeye with less than 90 hours, <700 miles. I replaced the bearing inside the case that covers the drive belt, on the left side. The second time I did it myself, since the dealer only uses Chinese bearings. This seems to have cured a "chirping" sound when you rev the motor and it winds down. The old bearing had a rough spot when you turned the inner race. I took it out today. We have a couple of hundred acres in coastal Virginia. No hills to speak of, but there's a utility cutover with really rough ground with 4-5 foot high undergrowth. My 4 y/o grandson rode on the seat in front of me, and when we got back to the truck, his rubber boot heel had melted on the case/cover at my right ankle. The bike seemed to be running a little hot, but I attributed it to the thick, dense underbrush not allowing much of an airflow. It was a 40 minute run at only 4-6 mph, mostly in 2 wheel drive. You just can't go any faster. I didn't expect it to be that hot. Do I have a problem? Is there anything I can do to help it run cooler, maybe with aftermarket parts?
Thanks!
Thanks!

cant remember, but does that have an oil cooler and is it plugged or the fan not working? air cooled engines do need good air flow to keep them cool. if you check the saprk plug to see if its running lean which make it run hotter as well. if the electrode is whitish and not more tan in color it's running on the lean side.

The only thing you can do is get the auxillary oil cooler, but it has no fan. I bought one for my Hawkeye, but I did not like the way it mounted and I was concerned it would get punctured by sticks as I ride in some pretty nasty cutover areas from time to time. I took the cooler off and its still in my basement.
Mine gets pretty hot as well, but it did not feel any hotter than the Honda 300 I rode recently.
