Default Predator 90 electrical... stuff?

Mrrh. I got a used 2006 pred90, guy said the electric start didn't work because the battery was dead.

Well, the battery was dead.

And the switch in the brake lever doesn't work.

And I'm not sure if the headlights are supposed to run from the battery when the engine is not running or not. They don't.

I don't know why it's so hard to find a wiring diagram for this thing, but does anybody have one? My starter still doesn't work. I haven't been working on it long, and it's cold in the garage right now, and there's poor lighting, so I haven't even done the obvious tests (voltmeter to starter motor, jumper relay contacts to see if starter engages, etc.) but even if it's something simple, I'd like to make some electrical changes to it which would be a lot easier if I knew what was already there.

Help?

My brother just purchased an 04 Predator last week. We found a service manual (download) at tradebit.com and it possessed an electrical diagram.

I believe the Polaris design switches negative as well as positive.

The lights run off the stator, not the battery so they only come on when the engine is turning. Also may be the issue with the brake light switch...won't come on unless the engine is running. Can you kick the motor over and get it started so the lights come on?

I found the wiring diagram of the Predator to be a little complicated but I seem to remember an interlock switch on the brake handle that lit up the brake light when squeezed whether the bike was running or not. The brake switch also acted as a permissive that would apply negative to the starting relay when squeezed.

I'd still love to have the wiring diagram for future reference.

That said, I'm glad to hear the headlights aren't supposed to be working off the battery. That's one less problem to fix.

The brake switch is, in fact, defective. I had to jumper over it to even get the starter relay to click. I now have 12V at the starter motor, so apparently the starter is bad.

And as far as getting it to start without the starter . . . of course, that's how it's been running since I bought it.
