Hi, I am 13 5'1 100 lbs. I ride mostly dunes/hills,trails and open fields. I am thinking about buying a 400ex but I think I might not be able to handle it becuase it is big machine. But I would love to have one. I was thinking maybe I could just take it slow and be really careful. I have only ridden quads only a few times. If I could have some of your guys opinions that would be helpful.THANKS

Is this your first quad or bike? I am 13 5'5 125lbs and I have no trouble with my 400EX. I race motocross and keep up pretty well. I don't think you will have much trouble as long as you take it slow until you get used to it.

i am 14, 150 pounds. and own a 440ex. i race it and can handle like anyone else. i started out with a 300ex also and that is what i would do. get use to a clutch and a smaller type of sport quad. then move to a bigger ex.

If your only 13, and about the same size as me, go with the 300ex. It will take you years to outgrow the 300ex. It has plenty of power, goes great on the trails, and is a great first quad for anyone. My husband has the 400ex, and the only reason you would need one of these for a first quad, is if you want to race. It is way too much quad for a beginner. Also, the 300ex is bombproof.
You can do anything to it, and not hurt it. It is a low-maintainence quad. And if you do finally outgrow it, you can always put on modifications. It is much cheaper than the 400ex, and a much better choice for you. I'm a mom, so I know these things! LOL Also, there are some great deals out there on the 300ex's. I bought mine for $3500. from a guy that bought it and didn't like it. So keep your eyes open, you should be able to find something great.

Don't get the 300ex its a waste of money Its worth it to get a 400ex right away. Two months after you buy the 300ex you will wish you bought the 400ex. It only took me a month to realize the 400ex didn't have enough power..

I went from a 185s to a 250r (both trikes) oops!
I learned the hard way about a power band. If your careful and start out in an open area you should get the 400ex. I had the 300ex and quickly out grew it. one good thing about the 300ex is the reverse. to become old and wise, you must first be young and stupid.(I'm just lucky god loves me)HEHEHE
