hey all. I have a 2004 model Honda Rancher 350 full time 4x4. I just bought it. This is my first four wheeler. I been riding on my three wheelers til now. And i was wondering what type of oil/fluids should i put in my oil and gear case? It smokes a little and im going to start putting Lucus Oil Stabilizer into it to see if that helps any at all.

 

Honda 10w40 make sure when you put the new oil in you run the machine for about three to five minute than check the oil level. do not screw the dipstick in to check just set it in the hole. they hold just under 3.5 quarts

 

Ummm you may wanna stay away from weird additives in a Honda atv they have wet clutches that can be sensitive to junk you put in your oil.. just run a decent oil let it smoke whatever it will still last forever.. I would change the oil in the front and rear differentials too .. just use some decent 80-90 diff oil..

 

Yeah, it runs wet clutch, so I'd also recommend not using any kind of additive, even if it says it is safe for motorcycle clutches.

A quality 10W40 rated API SG or higher and JASO MA (motorcycle specific rating for wet clutches) would be good.

As noted above, change the filter too, and when you check it let it idle for 4 minutes or so, then sit for a few minutes.

For the final drives on the axles, a good 75W90 or 80W rated GL-5 would be just fine.

I'd also ignore a slight bit of smoke. It could be the thing hasn't run much lately, and running it around with fresh oil might clear up a slightly sticky ring. If it is a worn cylinder or something, it may go hundreds and hundreds of hours before it gets much worse.

 

Thanks everyone for the comments im doing it first thing in the morning tomorrow. And yes i just bought it and it didnt run in a while the front gear case was making all sorts of racket thinking the four wheel drive was about to go out but it didnt. I hope new oil will help it out.
