Default 04 big bear 400 cooling system

I have looked all over the internet trying to locate a replacement radiator for an 04 Big Bear 400. Once I hit the end of the internet, I decided to post the question to the ones I should have asked to begin with....YOU!

Besides a dealership, where can I find an OEM or aftermarket radiator? I have found all the relocation kits, but I need a replacement radiator!

Anyone?

Try this

2004 Yamaha YFZ350 Radiators - BikeBandit.com

I would have a local Radiator shop rebuild it.

Hefty, thanks for responding.

I feel pretty dumb! It is not a radiator...it is an oil cooler. I have located the part at a local Yamaha dealership for $130....service is higher...probably do it myself.

Hope this helps someone in future search's

have you tried aftermarket? You may find a better one cheaper and they are not that hard to replace at all.

Try a transmission oil cooler for a car or truck, they do the same thing.

I really appreciate the info. I will look into both.

I just picked up this 04 Big Bear and am waiting on my Clymer manual.

When I replace it, do I need to do anything special other than attaching it and putting oil back into the engine?

I am not sure the Clymer manual will cover replacing the cooler.

Thanks

Just make sure that you use the proper type of oil, and don't over fill. I would fill the engine to the full mark on the dipstick, remove the spark plug, crank the engine over 10 secs several times, and recheck oil level.

The manual should confirm this, but there should be an oil bleed screw or bolt in the engine head, to bleed air from the cooler. Open it slowly to push the air out, until all you have coming out is oil with no bubbles.

I think the cooler might have a fan, make sure it works OK, and above all; be patient.

I appreciate the info. Hopefully it will be an easy job! I am not doing anything until I get my Clymer manual in.

I will try and remember to post pics on how it went.

Exactly. Not sure how you can even reck a oil cooler. My 350 Big Bear had a small one without even a fan assist,I,m sure the ATV would of been ok even without it. Two oil lines from the motor,s oil filter cover #15 (A,B) to the oil cooler lines (A,B) ,it should be a easy job even without a manual. these guys sell the cooler for $106.http://www.cyclepartswarehouse.com/f...2004&fveh=1194
