1988 trail boss 250 r/es exhaust issues
#1
Hi, my trail boss 250 2-stroke is extremely loud. Runs good and rides good but is so loud it almost hurts your ears. I have been able to tune the throttle down to quiet it a little but not much. From where the header pipe (u pipe) meets the block there is a donut gasket and where the u pipe meets the rest of the exhaust should there be another one??? Thought about welding that part closed not sure if thats the best way to go though??? Should I replace all my exhaust springs??? This thing is way to loud. Also it seems like it idles too high, haven't been able to tell cause of the exhaust though but doesn't seem to idle lower much when I turn the screw on the carb, what are possible reasons for a high idle???

For what it's worth, I got my 1988 Trail Boss used and it did not have a gasket where the u-pipe joins the muffler. I recently had it all apart, and was wondering about this myself, and so checked the parts suppliers online. There is no gasket there, according to the parts list.
