Fuel Mileage
#1
I ride an 08 Big Bear 400 IRS...question is...does anyone know how many miles approximately I can get on a tank of gas or on a gallon of gas? I have put almost 1800 miles on the quad since I bought it new, but have never even cut it close enough to need the reserve. I am comfortable riding 55-65 miles at a stretch, but was wondering what a max number would be.
We spent a short week at Hatfield McCoy this past summer (me, brother on 08 KQ 400, and dad on 09 Griz 700 FI)...filled all three quads up each day...the two four hundreds took about 10 bucks a day each and the griz 700 took 20 bucks a day to go the same mileage. Bought my dad a rotopax 4 gallon gas can to extend his mileage (gas light flashed at 45 miles at Bear Wallow)...should we have about comparable mileage now? Me on just my gas tank and him on his tank and extra 4 gallons.

You can could on 20 mpg on average trail riding more or less, My 350 Big Bear had a small 2.6 tank and ran out at 50 miles. Your 400 has a larger 4 gallon tank. Approaching 80 miles ,its time to get nervous.
My friends 350 Grizzly hit reserve at exactly 55 miles, with its 3.6 gas tank (we set the tripmeter). His reserve is good for about 18 miles.
