I'm interested in a new quad, thought about a Raptor, but my friend has one and it feels kinda small(I'm 6'3", 275#), although I love the power. I've been thinkin' about a DS for a while now, more-so since I see the black one. Can anyone tell me about their weak points, stuff that seems to break, stuff that should be improved, etc etc. I've read the post about the chain roller, and was wondering if there's anything else like that on this quad. Thanx alot in advance. Oh, and what's the average OTD prices?

Go with the DS650 It will fit you better. Add a pipe to bring on the low end power and change the the tire to ITP Holeshots XCT 22" in back and 23" up front. The tires will help you from bending the stock rims

hey there, I have a DS650 and it is a great atv, It has so much torque though there are a few drawbacks. Well first it doesn't have reverse which isn't to bad unless you are pushing it up a hill. Actually that is the only drawback that I can think of. Anyway I am 6 feet 4 260lbs and it is perfect for me. I sat on a raptor and it felt real small and skinny.
The DS doesn't really need any extra power but the way most people think is that when you ride a atv with 200cc, a little while later you are going to want something faster. It's basically like a car. But anyway the DS is a great atvexcept for the lack of reverse in tight places. I hope this helped.

2001 DS650, Graydon proline-skidplates and nerfbars. Just some extra protection.

On my 2001, I have not seen the problem with the chain roller, though I am watching. I also made sure to have the dealer check the fan to ensure it is working, I heard a couple of guys had problems with the fan. (Mine works, I heard it come on while pausing on the trail.) I rode a Raptor prior to buying my DS and didn't ride the DS until after buying it - I'm still happy I bought it. (The Raptor is a good ATV; it just isn't what I'm looking for.)

OTD I worked a deal for $7400. Not including finance charges. I also got the guy to give me some discounts in the store and other minor things.

I bought the Black one and find the picture of it on the Bombardier website doesn't do it justice. This is the best looking (in my humblest of opinions) machine around.

To see a picture of mine go to http://members.home.net/blackhawk/index.html
then click on the ATV Page.

As far as mods, I plan to go with the same as what is listed in this thread (Tires, pipe, Air filter etc.) Though I'm not convinced on the Rev box at this point.

Hope you thoroughly enjoy the machine you do choose.

It is very, very, very good! I would say the best for those who love high performance riding and baja style competition. )
If you are going to ride in muddy tight woods is not that good.

Well there! I think you all just sold me a DS 650! There's a dealer about half hour away that has a yellow 2001 DS he said he'll sell for 6700 OTD because he's paying interest on it or something that I don't understand. Plus its been used at expos, but only the dealer's ridden it. I'm gonna try to get him to swap plastics, but even if he doesn't I should be a proud bomber owner by the end of next week!! Woo-Hoo!! One more ?.....Does the stock grab bar keep it from going over backwards when a wheelie gets out of hand? I was just wondering because of the way its bent down......Thanx alot!!!.....Raptors beware!!

If you do your homework you can buy it even cheaper.Have you checked w/out of state dealers???You can save the tax and also no setup fee($300-400).I had a dealer in Mich.(has a WEBSITE) that would sell me a 2001 for $6300 OTD.Delivery on top($275) but check freight companies they very alot depending on there routes.A 2000 was $6k .Good luck.

Well it sounds to me like you're convinced. I love both my DS and Banshee. I'm a California dune/desert rider. I'm also 6'3" and a svelte 300 ponds . The DS is an awsome bike. Awsome power and great suspension. I'm a freak when I'm on a bike. I like to shoot hills and jump off the other side and the DS never moans or gives me any grief. It's wide stance sticks like glue to any side hill but carves wicked turns and powerslides like a dream. All in all I'm extremely happy. If you do end up getting the bike, make sure the dealer did a p.d.i. Mine wasn't. The chain from the factory came WAY too tight and I burned up my chain roller and put two nice groves in my fraim. I've got a friend who just bought a DS as well and his chain roller is just fine because the chain was adjusted properly to begin with. *curses to himself about trusting dealers* Hope you get it and have fun. Oh ya, and make a few phone calls because I picked up mine two months ago for $6,300 otd.
