Question Oil Change Question - Is my motor damaged???

Was changing the oil on the new to me 2006 500 Sportsman. I read the manual, and watched a bunch of you tube videos on it.

Everything went fine, but when I reached up to crimp the hose to bleed the system, I felt a slit in the hose that runs to the air box. I pulled the hose off completely and it does have a 1" slit in it.

My question is this, would that hose leaking damage the engine by not allowing the oil to properly flow from tank to crankcase?

I am running right now to get a new hose so I can put it back together right, but I am freaking out about it!

to the airbox? That is what i believe to be a sort of crankcase vent hose

If the hose goes to the air box, its just a vent hose. It shouldn`t be anything to worry about.

That slit is supposed to be there. It's a breather hose and not a oil line. It's a safety feature that if to much pressure builds up it will blow the line and not blow out your oil resevoir.
