Any mechanical flaws on the 660? Which years to watch out for?

your planning to get a 660r, i thought you were going to get a 700r but anyway, you should watch for the years 2001 and 2002 because they have tranny problems but i think the other years are okay. Make sure you check the quad properly because they tend to abuse it.

I've posting about all kinds of sport quads. People are probably gettin tried of reading all my posts. I'm new to owning a sport quad and im just trying to find a good fast reliable machine. I've always been biased to Yamaha. I wish they made a 400 class but I really like the raptors. I only have about 2500 to work with and i dont hink i can find a good 700r for that or i would get it.

'01 was the only year with tranny issues. Yamaha put out the parts to upgrade them, and a properly fixed '01 tranny is also nothing to fear. I would buy one if proper documentation was given as to it being fixed.

Pretty much all the years have one way bearing issues, I don't think it is a big deal to replace though.

IMHO, I would prefer something along the lines of a Z400 that will handle better at the expense of a little power unless you are riding a lot of open desert or dunes. A widened 660 might peak my interest a little more though.

NOOOOOO!!! Up until 05 they also have STARTER CLUTCH problems!! I just had to replace my starter clutch 2 weeks after i bought it, 260.00. I have read on here that almost all 660 except 05 have to have their starter clutch replaced!! SUCKS.... I would stick with my 06 HONDA 450r, i LOVE IT!! Although not having reverse does kinda suck sometimes

I have seen a few decent 700's go for around 2500 in my area, you just have to keep your eye out for them.
