400EX vs 500 Scrambler
#1
I ride with a fellow that has a slightly modified 500 Scrambler. I know that I can out perform him just about anywhere but a straight away. If both machines where stock, how bad would I get beat in a drag? or would I? Thanks for the help.

I agree, all the Scrambler has to do is gun it and hold it wide open, he will always get the holeshot when there is good traction available...
The 400EX has to ride the clutch in first and second to keep from flipping over backwards... then it might start to gain or hang with the Scrambler in 3rd or 4th...
and yeah, they should have about the same top speeds

I have a Scrambler 500 4x4 and I can't beat a 400EX....or havent' to this point. lol I can get the holeshot no problem but the EX always has me on the tall end. I never win, but I never lose by much if that helps any. When we race in sand it is usually much closer but the 400EX still wins. Mud drags and reverse races I am still the undisputed champion though. hehehehe
The only mods the 400EX has is an aftermarket pipe and Works Shocks all the way around.
My only mods are an aftermarket pipe and some neato stickers.
Don't take this as gospel though. I have only raced 1 400EX and I am noticably heavier than my opponent physically (it's all muscle though hehe).

You guys riding the 400ex's must not know how to use the clutch very good. A stock 400ex should smoke a 4by4 Scrambler in a drag race up to top speed with similar sized riders. There were some drag races a wile ago(organized event) and a scrambler 2000 500 with a Full supertrapp exhaust system and K&N air filter, lost to a bone stock 400ex.

Two of my buddies have scramblers one with a 2x4 400 and a 2x4 500. the 400 has beat me before but i have beaten it in the last 20 races. he has a some kind of silencer and has done some clutch work and is also 20 puonds lighter than me. the 500 doesnt even come close to me he is about 5-7 bike lenghts behind. and he is also lighter than me. all i got on my 400ex is a jet kit and k&n filter.

I just traded my 500 4x4 Scrambler for a new 400ex and I can tell you ther is no comparison. The 400ex is much faster. The only advantage the Scrambler has is the auto trany. It might get the hole shot but would quickly loose the rest of the race. Of cours i could not race the two side by side before trading but seat of the pants tells me that the ex is much faster all around.

Hey guys~
First off, any manual clutched quad will "feel" faster than an automatic quad. With each shift, you have a surge of power, where on the Polaris, there is a constant stream of power. Now back to the topic...Here's what I've found from my experience: With my Scrambler(clutch mods and silencer), I have beat 3 400ex's off the line and for the first 150-200 feet. Keep in mind though, this was on hard packed snow and I believe I had an advantage there. Once the 400ex passed me, he kept pulling away.
