Default 2005 Honda Rancher AT Fourtrax Transmission Problem

Okay, in 2 wheel drive the ATV will not move at all in drive. When in 4 wheel drive it will make clicking noises from the transmission like a stripped gear. And only reverse will move the wheeler.

what is the problem exactly? i have no idea where to start looking in the tranny.

Just going out on a limb here....

If it moves in reverse....then I'm thinking it may be the shift cable out of adjustment.

Possibly not moving the linkage on the transmission enough to go into the drive position?

okay well i put a vice on the shift lever towards the back where the auto shifter and gear light sensors are, and put a little more pressure in the direction for drive, and boom, it works fine! so i adjusted the shift cable till drive stopped clicking, and now there's no neutral or reverse.

it rides good tho, but what could cause it to need more pressure for drive? I'm thinking the final drive gear. I'm gonna drain the oil and see if i can find any suspicious contamination

If it moved in reverse before you adjusted the cable and now moves in drive.....I still think it's in the cable adjustment.
You should invest in a service manual as I'm sure there are several steps in adjusting this cable....I know it is on my Rubicon which has basically the same transmission.

What are you referring to when you say "needs more pressure in drive"?

I doubt there is anything wrong with the final drive as the atv went it reverse before you adjusted the cable but now goes only in drive with no neutral and no reverse, after you adjusted the cable.

That cable moves a lever that moves a swash plate the transmission to determine forward or reverse.
