Is it normal for a TRX90X to die if you hit the throttle all at once?
#1
I bought this bike 6 weeks ago and this is really the 1st time I got it out. I havn't thought it had ran right since I got it. It wouldn't pull itself with more than 1/4 throttle with the restrictor cap on the airbox it would sputter and barely run. I pulled it off and once the engine gets really warm it runs ok. If I hit the throttle all at once the engine will die but it seems to run ok if I ease the throttle to it. If I turn the choke on 1/2 way it will rev as fast as I can hit the throttle but start sputtering at 1/2 throttle. I hate to drive all the way back to the dealer for them to look at and them tell me theres nothing wrong with it even though I don't think it is running correct. I just need to know if it has a problem or not. THANKS!!! Here is a vid I took this morning on a side road by my house and it was about 28 degrees out. Does it look like it is running like it should? THANKS!!!

Nice video Thanks!!! Imo the atv runs pretty good, these little quads don,t have accelerator pumps in carb... But you could inspect carb to if any blockage... But don,t think you will find anything thou IIMO, Does Quad do the same thing with the child riding it?

We have an 06 TRX 90 that has been handed down to the grandkids. I had problems with it when new.....like being really cold natured when starting it up.
I had my neighbor, a mechanic, look at it a couple years ago and he rebuilt the carb and the thing starts easily and runs better than it did new.
These things are leaned out from the factory so richening them up helps a great deal!
For what it's worth, we bought my son an 09 Recon that ran lousy until it warmed up. You had to sit and nurse the choke and throttle to get it to run. I removed the carb, then removed the air mixture screw and put a slot in the head of it so I could adjust it. What a difference!

My son doesn't even know about it yet and won't until summer as I bought it to put up till summer but noticed it didn't seem right when I went to start it and let it run one day along with my other quads. I wasn't even going to ride it until I gave it to my son until I wanted to see how it ran when riding. It hasn't been road but like 15 mins. It does the same thing when I hit the throttle while I'm not riding it! You could tell when I got the bike it looked like it had been in there storage building for quiet a while as you could see where they had wiped the dust off the plastic and missed it in the holes and it had dust all on the susp on it and the tires where white or something on them which were also half flat. I put a new plug in it as the old one was black on the end and put new gas in it incase it was old. Thats what made me think there could be a blockage in the carb from it setting. It seems to run ok when up to speed I just notice it kinda stumbles while idling and can't shoot the throttle to it. Here is a pic of it as I ordered a black front fender center piece and put on it to look better as the 09's had all white plastic!

I might play with the mixture screw a little first when i get a chance and if it don't fix it might end up taking it back to the dealer even though I hate too! Would it be easy to take the carb off and clean it and put it all back together if i bought a honda OEM service manual?

The head of that mixture screw is round with a flat spot, kind of like the letter "D".....so you will need a special tool to adjust it....OR.....do like I did. I worked the mixture screw out with a small flat head screwdriver.....out far enough to use my fingers.
I then cut a slot in that screw head with a Dremmel tool. Sure is easier to adjust the screw with a regular screwdriver.
