What's it gonna take to really wake the top end up on our Raptors?

Okay guys, I've admitted it before, but again, I'm going through withdrawal from my Banshee. Don't get me wrong, there are a lot of good things that I love about my Raptor, but what I miss so much is the screaming top end power I once had.

I know that I don't really need it for the woods type riding that I do, but when did need really have anything to do with it? I mean who here really needs a $7,500 quad? It's just something nice to have.

So what I want to know is this: Are we ever going to see some engine packages that will deliver some outstanding top end HP for our Raptors? I'm not crazy about a big bore kit, I'm looking for something that will run on pump gas and will peak out somewhere around 7500 rpm instead of 6000 rpm for the stock one. Do you think we'll see some big improvements soon?

I not real familiar about this region but won't some of the racing companies get into Porting it for top end? Or does porting just apply to 2 strokes?

A full Race cam (210.00 with core)
A spring kit (200.00 with titanium caps)
Valve guides redone, ported (240.00)
A full race piston 12:1, offset pin, etc (325.00)
Or a high compression piston 11:1 (175.00)

Or a DS650. Its a pure top end machine like the Shee.

Or what you can do is pull that motor out and stick that manly banshee engine in there

What kind of Pipe are you running?

The Stock Raptor will run out of steam at 8200 R.P.M. in 3rd, and will not hit the 9000 set by the rev limiter in any gear,
I'm sure it could with the clutch pulled in or in netural, but I debate the sense of excessive revving with no load, BTW these findings were based on Electronic Tach readings, and since this model uses Ignition pulses, I have no reason to doubt its validity.

You, if your a really good mechanic might want to try adjusting the Cam and Ignition timing(s),
Car Dudes know of this, and I do not see a reason
why it would not work on a 4-stroke ATV.

This is of course a give-&-take situation, you could most likely end up with as much or more
Top End power than anythintg else out there, but
you will lose some Low-End, of course the Raptor has a overabundance of that.

Maybe the FMF A.O.F. Ignition, is all you need
it works with the Ignition timing which is 1/2 of what I was jabbering about before.

If you are going to go into the engine and make the timing adjustments, you or whoever dose it
MUST BE a skilled mechanic, this is not a light undertaking nor one for the Mechanically Inept.

Good Luck

-CT's exhaust looks like it would help
-High comp piston 10.5-1(shouldn't need 100% race fuel)
-Port the head and grind valves
-Camshaft (top-mid, lobe grind)

I think you would be surprised!

Okay, I think that I found the answer. It's going to take cubic dollars!

I talked to bike works and they have several things in the mix for the Raptor.

Head work which is around $550
Cam $250-300
Piston $250 (forgot actual price on some of these)
Carburetor kit and intake $730 est.

Not to mention an aftermarket pipe.
