Default Steering problems....

On my 2004 700 Ive had to weld the steering post to the plate that holds the handlebars twice now. From the factory I couldnt believe that that just had 2 beads on it instead of going all around it. When I welded it, I was in a hurry(no excuse) and while riding yesterday, the handlebars bent to one side. Anyone else have any problems with this? Anyone know of any good solutions, beside welding the pi$$ out of it?

Thanks....

How the he!! Did you get the old one out or new one in? I've disassembled most of the front end!!! Next option is to unbolt gas tank and scoot it back. Any help?

THAT'S exactly how you remove the steering post! Slide the tank back OR off to allow room to pull up the old post! Pain in the ****! I've replaced many over a 23 year period. OPT

You can get the bearings pretty cheap on ebay too along with tie rod ends, ball joints, etc.
