Uh oh...you have opened the proverbial "can of worms" by asking what oil to use! LOL!
You will get all kinds of suggestions from running "Honda" branded oil to some expensive oil!
Having said that, I live in N MS and the oil I use is Shell Rotella 5w-40 synthetic in my 07 Rubicon. In fact, I use it in my son's 09 Recon, the wife's 04 Bruin and the grandkids 06 TRX 90....as well as my Yamaha motorcycle. I prefer synthetic oil due to it's characteristics of "clinging" to metal parts and thus avoiding a "dry" start-up.
But as long as the oil falls into the viscosity specs of the engine and is not labeled "Energy Conserving"...you will be okay.
I also run synthetic gear oil in the differentials of the atvs as well as the rear diff on my motorcycle.

A 10W40 rated API SG or higher and JASO MA would be fine. The MA rating is motorcycle specific, showing that it is suitable for wet clutches (Which the Rubicon has).
Don't use anything that says "energy conserving". or anything that contains molly, or anything with PTFE or teflon.
Honda's GN-4 is a fine choice, but there are many others. Rotella or Premium Blue or another CH or CJ rated (diesel rating) oil would be the next-best choice if you can't get MA oil, but I'd run MA.

Really? I did not know that. Thanks for posting.
Back in the day when I did farm work, the boss had me put T in everything from the 400 Cummins in the Freightliner, to the Steiger, down to the Big Red's and even the lawn mower...
Never had an oil related problem.
