I've been working on a 110 atc, I can get it to start up and idle great, but it dogs out when getting on the throttle. I've had the carb apart and cleaned and inspected it, looks good. My manual says when setting the pilot screw to turn it in till it starts to stall and then turn it out till it starts to stall and then split the difference. (I have tried the all the way in and then back out 1 1/2 turns too). My problem seems to be that i can turn the pilot screw in and out and it doesn't change the motor at all. Do i need a new carb/jet kit or am i missing something? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

 

Sounds like the carb. is still gummed or dirty. Does it run better on choke? Does it have a new spark plug?

yeah it does respond to throttling up better when choked, brand new plug gapped to .026

Take the carb. apart jets, float, needle valve and clean everything real good. Pay particular attention to the pilot jet and the passages in the carb's throat. Run a piece of fine wire through all the jet holes and passages.

 

I took the carb back apart and was cleaning things again, the smaller brass screw deal next to main jet holder, underneath the float, doesn't seem to have clear passage all the way through, I dont know if this is the way it is supposed to be or not, It seems to be at the other end of the portal that the pilot screw threads into and thus makes me wonder if this is my problem. there are holes at each end and going seemingly to go through the length of the deal but when i gently push a small needle through, it stops a little way from each end. the one end has the slot for a flat screwdriver and the other end has about 8 horizontal holes that are all clear and connect to hole at the end that end of the deal. any thoughts? the fine tip at the end of the pilot screw still looks good.

 

That's the pilot jet is has the holes down the sides of it and has a hole through the length that needs to be clear, so to answer your question yes it's suppose to be clear all the way through to pickup fuel from the bowl if not it will do what you are describing. A needle won't fit it has to be a piece if wire. If you can't clear it just go get a new jet from the dealership for 5 bucks.
