Default Help '04 700 Primary Clutch

Hi Guys,

The belt on my primary clutch doesn't climb to the top of the sheave at WOT. Therefore, my speed tops out at only 45 mph. The belt is correct and brand new.

It has been suggested by other posts that there is a "limiter nut" or "jam nut" that sometimes gets backed off that can cause this situation. Below is a link to a diagram of the clutch assembly that showa a nut (#9).

OEM Parts Polaris SPORTSMAN 700 (A04CH68AP/AQ/AU/CU) 2004 DRIVE CLUTCH - A04CH68AP/AQ/AU/CU - Cheap Cycle Parts

Can anyone verify if this is the correct nut and that if I tighten it, my problem may be solved??? Also, do I need any special tool to get at and tighten it and does it need to be torqued to a specific #?

Thanks in advance for your help.

johcha

thats the nut, u do need special tools to get in there to it, i take em off every clutch i do, its just plastic, doesn't really do anything, i would check the tower where ur buttons are and see if its tight when u slide the sheaves back and fourth

i don't think the primary buttons would stop the clutch from opening unless one was real bad or missing causing the sliding sheeve to **** off side ways. imo

kcaves,
It requires a special tool and doesn't really do anything! Very strange.

Please see the following link were it is discussed:

Do you know where I can get the tool?

You wrote that you take them off the clutches you work on. Does that mean you don't put them back on because they don't do anything??
