Just purchased a 2003 650 Rincon!! Idle and Stalling Question!!
#1
Why hello there folks,
Just wondering if you guys have any suggestions to whats going on. I just purchased a 2003 Rincon 650 and I noticed a few things it does. I noticed that whenever I put it in Drive or reverse it grinds a little. Is this grinding normal? If I shift it in quickly with the foot break peddle on I noticed it doesn't do it or just a little. Another thing I noticed is that when I put it in reverse it likes to stall out. I'm thinking maybe its idling too low. If its an idling problem can someone point out how I can adjust it?
Thanks in advance,

The grinding is not at all normal. You need to identify the problem and fix it promptly, or you can damage the gears in the sub-transmission.
Engine could be idling too high, shift cable could be out of adjustment, or the end of the cable could be out of its seat.
Regarding stalling, it does have a power limiter in reverse, but that would only kick in when it is getting higher in revs.
Could be time for a carb cleaning.

Thanks,
Not my real name !!
Back to my question, I'm not sure where to start looking to see what is causing the grinding noise !! When I shift it into drive or reverse quickly I don't notice anything !!

First hook a tach to it and see what it is idling at. Second, look over the shifter cable carefully to see that the ends are set properly in the little cup things.
There is also an adjustment procedure for the cable.
