2006 honda es shifting issue
#1
I am having issues with my 2006 honda trx500fe electric shift (800 miles). It will not shift from neutral to 1st or 1st to 2nd or back to neutral at times, other times I have no issues. If I rock the atv a little while pushing the button it will then shift. I took it in last summer to an atv shop to have it looked at and standard maintenace done but nothing was found? Any ideas?

That's probably an early indicator that the angle sensor is starting to go bad. If you bought that ATV new, there is an outside chance a factory recall will replace it. My 05 was on the recall list and my local dealer replaced it at no charge. If you have to pay for it the part was around $60.

there were many shift issues with the 05/06 ES. bad o-rings, loss of pressure- issues with improper warm up- since the engine & tranny share the same oil, trying to ride the bike when it was cold often resulted in a slipping / non sifting tranny. My owners manual even had a TSB folded in it when I bought my 05 & 06 rincons on this issue... can you check the pressure?

I'm about ready to pull the plug on a Honda Rancher, but I'm undecided on the electric shift. I'm actually leaning towards the non electric but I'd sure like to hear from those of you that have any experience with the ES and see if they are as problem free as the dealer wants me to believe.
