Default I know these machines run hot but!!!!!!!

I was just out doing some night riding around my property and when I got back to the garage I looked at my exhaust (header) coming off the cylinders and it was glowing orange. Is this normal or is there something wrong here. I heard of plastics getting melted off of these machines but not sure about what years that happened to. I do have heat wrap here that we use in the power plant and was thinking about wrapping it up a bit. The machine runs fine as heck with plenty'O power and can do wheelies with no problem (probably why my front motor mount broke lol) Just wondering if this is normal (07 Sportsman 800 twin EFI)

On some of the early ones that ran hot,we hooked em up to the Digital Wrench and reflashed em to try to make them run a little richer and cooler, but I think some other things can be done, really can't remember what other things we did? I'm having a senility moment I guess?? OPT

I have read of that happening before...Some guys will ceramic coat the header pipe to cut down on the heat....

I agree with OPT, a glowing header pipe is usually a sure sign of a lean fuel mixture.

they all did that. i never had either my 06 or 08' reflashed and had no issues. yes reflashing will help alot as it does richen it up and cools it down. i knew some who cermic coated there headed pipe to help as well some heat wrapped to help. the melting issues were mostly on the 05' models and some 06' that didn't have the up dated heat shields on.

Thanks, I'll add some heat wrap and see about how much it cost to reflash and see if it is practical to do so. I Love this website =)

Totally normal.
I've had many bikes that do that.
Most people don't notice it because they mainly ride in the day light.

It's kinda amazing that all exhaust headers don't do that i mean they do have flames blowing into them!!
