Default 05 Honda Rubicon, angle sensor problem?

We have a 2005 Honda Rubicon that has about 9400 miles and it is starting to act up on us. Whenever we put it in gear, instead of showing what gear it is in on the display, it will just show two lines and it will not shift. To get it working, we have to put it back in neutral and back in gear again. This happens almost every time. Even when it does show what gear it is in, after we take off, the two lines will show up again. Is this something that will keep getting worse and worse until the problem is fixed?

Would this be an angle sensor problem? Where is this sensor located? I have a manual for it but I can't find the darn thing.

Just sounds like falty electronics. Learn your bike, know what gear its in and dont worry to much whats on screen...

Also that would have nothing to do with shifting problems, if so thats a mechanical problem.

I am positive that the display showing two lines instead of the gear has to do with the bike not shifting.

Whenever the display shows the two lines, it will not shift. Whenever the display shows the gear, it shifts fine.

Ok, thats got me boggled to? Sounds mechanical but minor! Call your local dealer or 2 and ask them what that might mean...Some kind of code etc..

I have had similar issues with my 02 rubi and found it could be a couple things, including the angle sensor. You should use the manual and see if it is pulling a code.

Blinking dashes indicates ECM detected a problem and is in limp mode. Is there a pause between a number of blinks?

The dashes do not blink at all. It acts as if it is not in gear all the way even though it still clicks into gear.

Could possibly be the gear position switch, or a loose or dirty connection. A factory service manual would be a good investment.

I found our service manual and I did some testing. I tested the ohms on the angle sensor and it was good. I also took apart the gear position switch connector and cleaned it out. Did not make a difference. I did not have time to test anything else. Where is the gear position switch located at?

Up under the front fender, if I recall correctly. Check the manual.
